The EMS Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staffing, and performance of emergency medical services. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, manages budgets, develops policies and procedures, and maintains high-quality patient care standards. The EMS Manager also serves as a liaison between emergency personnel, healthcare facilities, and government agencies.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage EMS operations, including staff scheduling, deployment, and response efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards governing emergency medical services.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EMS policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Manage budgets, allocate resources efficiently, and oversee purchasing of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate EMS personnel to ensure optimal performance and professional development.
  • Coordinate with hospitals, fire departments, law enforcement, and other emergency response agencies.
  • Monitor and analyze EMS response times and service quality, making necessary adjustments for improvement.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and readiness of EMS vehicles and medical equipment.
  • Handle community relations, public education, and outreach efforts regarding emergency medical services.
  • Investigate incidents, complaints, or concerns related to EMS services and take appropriate action.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and implement community education programs to improve public awareness of emergency medical services and health improvement initiatives.
  • Promote health and wellness initiatives to enhance community safety and emergency preparedness.
  • Oversee interfacility transports and non-emergency ambulance services, ensuring efficiency, patient safety, and compliance with regulations.
  • Develop strategies to optimize the scheduling and coordination of non-emergency medical transportation.
  • Implement technology and communication improvements to streamline dispatch operations and response times.
  • Secure grants and funding to enhance EMS operations and community health initiatives.
  • Assist Director with EMS integration into regional disaster response plans, including mass casualty incidents.
  • Ensure regulatory and legal compliance beyond standard EMS operations.
  • Work closely with director and medical directors to establish advanced care protocols and training programs.
  • Strengthen collaboration with law enforcement for tactical medical response and crisis intervention.
  • Oversee the implementation of advanced EMS technology such as telemedicine and GPS tracking.
  • Develop specialized EMS response to fires, disasters, water rescue, and tactical medical response.

Education/Experience

Education & Certification Required: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited Paramedic Program. Active IN Paramedic license. CPR/BLS, ACLS, PALS certification. 

 

Education & Certification Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services or related field. NRP, PHTLS certification. 

 

Experience Required: Minimum of 7 years of experience as a paramedic in EMS, including supervisory or management experience

 

Experience Preferred: Experience managing complex EMS systems. Experience leading multi-jurisdictional EMS operations.

 

Schedule Details

Salaried. Day shift. Monday-Friday.
