Under the supervision of the Reid Health Transportation Supervisor, is responsible for transporting and escorting of patients and participants between their homes, Reid Health, Reid Health PACE Center, and other designated locations.

Overview of Responsibilities

  1. Provide regular and dependable attendance.
  2. Drives a specially equipped van to deliver persons to varied destinations. Assures that wheelchair lifts and tie down equipment are properly operated and that participants/patients are delivered to appointments in a timely manner.
  3. Ensure cleanliness and functioning of vehicle and vehicle and equipment. Inspects van and maintains it in a clear, orderly, and safe condition. Reports the need for maintenance.
  4. Follows established schedules, adjusts schedules to meet unanticipated changes, and determines the safest and most efficient pick-up and delivery routes.
  5. Assists passengers on and off the van in a safe and courteous manner. Deals with medical equipment and any emergencies that may arise.
  6. Completes documentation as required.
  7. Asks for assistance when needed.
  8. Attends and successfully executes required annual driver training courses and participates in mandatory in-service training.
  9. Is accountable for scope of work and compliance to company policies and procedures.
  10. Follows all Policies and Procedures and OSHA safety guidelines.
  11. Maintains the confidentiality of all company procedures, and information about participants, clients or families.
  12. Handles potentially infectious specimens with appropriate biohazard precautions, and practices standard precautions.
  13. Participates in and supports Quality Improvement initiatives.
  14. Participates in continuing education classes and any required staff and training meetings. Maintains professional affiliations and any required certifications.
  15. Performs other duties as required or requested.
  16. Complies with CMS PACE regulations as they pertain to this role.

Education/Experience

Education Required:  High School diploma

Education Preferred:  High School diploma

Experience Required:  1 year working with the frail and elderly population

Experience Preferred:   2 years in a transportation and/or patient transport setting.

Licensure: Valid driver’s license

Certifications:  CPR

Age requirement minimum:  21 years of age

Other: Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of safety requirements pertaining to the transportation industry.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with participants, patients, co- workers, medical staff, and the public.
  • Proficient in identifying and recommending problem resolution.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate transportation software.
  • Familiar with operation of accessible vehicles.
  • Experience with maintenance and oversight of vehicles.

 

Driver Acceptability Guidelines:

An individual driver is considered unacceptable to drive for Reid Health business if there are:

  1. Two or more at fault accidents within the last three years.
  2. Three or more moving violations within the last three years.
  3. License has expired.
  4. License is suspended.
  5. One or more major convictions within the last three years. Major convictions include:
  6. Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  7. Homicide or assault by a motor vehicle
  8. Driving a motor vehicle while license is suspended or revoked
  9. Driving a motor vehicle without the owner’s authority
  10. Reckless driving
  11. Speeding 26 mph or more over the speed limit
  12. Failure to stop and report an accident
  13. Fleeing or eluding a police officer

Schedule Details

Day Shift. 40 hours weekly. Monday-Friday 0800-1630.
