The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for the efficient operation of the patient room service operation including assembly and distribution of patient trays, and maintenance of exceptional sanitation and safety standards in all Food & Nutrition Services operations.  He or she will complete management assignments and act as relief supervisor for other supervisory positions.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Supervises FN&S personnel working in the cafeteria, catering, community programs, or patient services. Coordinates assignments to ensure timely and correct job completion, make sure that service needs are met, and that workflow is smooth.
  • Assures that proper procedures are used in preparing nourishments, tube feedings, and plated food portions.
  • Supervises the delivery and distribution of floor stock, nourishments and meal trays to nursing units.
  • Supervises employees working in the dishroom. Maintains proper procedures when handling dishes and silverware.
  • Maintains up-to-date job outlines for assigned positions so that they accurately reflect the expectations for the position.
  • Continually inspects overall dietary department sanitation, makes cleaning assignments, and counsels employees to make necessary corrections for proper sanitation, cleanliness, and infection control in compliance with regulatory agency sanitation standards.
  • Inspects food quality and size of portions to ensure food is prepared and served in the prescribed manner.
  • Inspects meals for overall quality, attractiveness, palatability, and temperature of food to ensure high patient and customer satisfaction.
  • Inspects all equipment having a required temperature to assure proper functioning. Takes immediate corrective action if needed.  Documents temperatures in assigned manner, along with any action taken to correct deficiencies.
  • Maintains budgetary compliance by controlling inventory and waste, planning purchases, limiting staff overtime, and striving for overall efficiency in operations. Manages all resources in a prudent manner.
  • Minimizes theft through supervision of department security.
  • Prepares work schedules for assigned staff following accepted practices, and covers the schedule for call-ins and/or instances of high census or increased business in the cafeteria, catering or community programs areas.
  • Approves time card edits, enters schedules into API and maintains attendance records. Counsels staff in regard to attendance issues.
  • Persists in thoroughly and effectively orienting, training, evaluating, counseling, and retraining employees in proper procedures for assigned duties. Evaluates training programs and directs training efforts.
  • Communicates effectively with employees.
  • Maintains training records and job training check-off lists for assigned staff.
  • Performs both 90-day and annual performance evaluations in a positive, direct, and timely manner.
  • Counsels and/or initiates disciplinary actions in an appropriately fair, consistent and professional manner. Maintains appropriate documentation of counseling and disciplinary actions.
  • Writes and implements assigned portion of the action plans related to employee opinion surveys.
  • Makes recommendations and participates in decisions regarding hiring of new employees. May interview potential candidates.
  • Accepts catering responsibilities.

Education/Experience

Certification Required: must recieve ServSafe certification.

Experience preferred: Certified Dietary Manager or equivalent in training is necessary. Supervisory experience is highly desirable. 

Schedule Details

Day Shift. 40 hours weekly. 11:30a-8pm as our Room service supervisor. At times, will work as the early room service supervisor from 5a-1:30p. Works every other weekend.
