A Reid Hospice Nursing Care Assistant (NCA) will provide services needed to maintain the patient’s health or to facilitate treatment of the patients’ illness or injury, and may provide “incidental services” non-health related services to an assigned group of patients in the home setting under the authoritative procedural guidance for a qualified person.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of the nursing process practice and their application, including principles of safety and infection control (trends, practice and application).
  • Must be knowledgeable of Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), and federal agency standards.
  • Must possess critical thinking skills, be conscientious, accurate and capable of reacting logically to unusual or stressful situations and maintain good judgment skills.
  • Must have the ability to work cooperatively with other health team members and willing to assume responsibility and accountability for own duties and actions.
  • Must have general competency in nursing techniques and procedures for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, as hospice provides care for adolescent, adult and geriatric clients.
  • Must be able to assess, interpret, and develop a care plan appropriate to meet each patient’s needs.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication, both oral and written, including Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR) format.
  • Must be able to use/learn computers and complex multiple electronic communication systems.
  • Must demonstrate a strong characteristic of organization and flexibility. Outcome oriented and is comfortable with a work environment that practices management by team concept.

Education/Experience

Licensure: CNA or HHA 

Experience Preferred:  Prior hospice experience

Certifications: BLS

Schedule Details

Day Shift. 40 hours weekly. Monday - Friday 8a-4:30p.
