This position will work directly with all nursing staff on the behavioral units of Reid Health as assigned. This position is designed to assist with control and movement of behavioral patients to prevent staff and patient injuries.

Overview of Responsibilities

  1. Visually checks for security safety and fire hazards.
  2. Make written shift reports on incidents/events and any use of force events
  3. Notifies Inpatient Psychiatry Charge person of any incidents/events or use of force events
  4. Conducts safety checks and tests as required by State and Federal laws for a hospital and behavioral units.
  5. Assists inpatient psychiatric staff with volatile and aggressive patients/family members to ensure a safe environment.
  6. Promptly reports to Reid Health Police Officers incidents involving criminal activities.
  7. Performs contraband checks with inpatient psychiatry staff.
  8. Supports Inpatient Psychiatric objectives.
  9. Assists with patient restraint when necessary.
  10. Will be part of the inpatient matrix mix on the adult or geriatric unit and will be expected to remain on the units for duration of shift as assigned by the Shift Charge Nurse.
  11. Checks all odor reports and locates origin.
  12. Responds to fire emergency calls, assists police, fire, and emergency management teams
  13. Performs role as a trainer for Security Code Classes and MOAB trainer for Reid Health.
  14. Supports hospital departmental policies, procedures, and missions’ statements.
  15. Participates in employee health infection control requirements.
  16. Attends staff meetings and in-services.
  17. Responds to Security Codes I & II located on the 6th floor and other units as permitted.
  18. Successfully completes all required hospital training.
  19. Will assist Inpatient staff in high acuity situations, documentation, and daily living skills as needed to prevent aggressive behaviors or violence.

Education/Experience

Education Required: Minimum High School Graduate

Education Preferred: College Degree in a related field

Experience Required:Experience with control of people held in a confined environment or behavioral environment. Must be a minimum of 21 years old

Experience Preferred:Confined environment working with behavioral issues

Licensure:May be obtained after hire for MOAB Instructor

Schedule Details

Day Shift. 36 hours weekly. 6:00a-6:15p
